Today’s all about hanging with longtime buds as Braze old-timers Spencer Burke and Will Crocker stop by the studio to discuss the latest tech industry news, including:
Long live… TurboTax?
Recently the House of Representatives passed a bill that would forbid the Internal Revenue Service from creating a free, electronic service for Americans to file their taxes. This is a win for companies like Intuit and H&R Block. This also raises the question: Why? Around the world, government agencies handle tax returns, so why is the US so intent on making taxpayers go through the misery of filing taxes themselves? Is this just lobbyist money winning out? Will we ever be free from the tyranny of painful tax filing software? Our hosts get heated.
China considers banning crypto mining
While you may not be able to explain how exactly crypto mining works, it’s pretty well known at this point that mining cryptocurrency uses up a ton of energy. According to a recent report, crypto mining gives off between million and 15 million tons of carbon dioxide globally. So is banning cryptocurrency mining a good move by China? And will this cause more countries to follow suit and prioritize the environment over Bitcoin?
Prince Harry attacks Fortnite
Yes. Seriously. This recently-married prince went off on the popular online video game, claiming it’s an “addictive substance.” Is Harry onto something? Should we consider placing limits on addictive technology? Should we be concerned that our young kids are getting hooked on these games instead of, you know, going outside? Or are these games deceptively social and help foster community for young gamers? Our intrepid hosts bat around these questions and discuss their own experiences with gaming.
It’s a packed episode of Braze for Impact that will appeal to gamers and non-gamers alike.
And don’t worry, the guys discuss more than just gaming—they also discuss Game of Thrones at length. Listen to the full episode here.
